What is business as usual?

What makes us feel inspired to work and what gets in the way of our day to day enjoyment in the workplace?

In ancient times business was primarily conducted through bartering, the direct exchange of goods and services without the use of money.

In these times we would create a product that was required in our communities and either exchange the product or, as we advanced, develop the use of currency.

The principles of business

The foundations of any business should have core principles. Those principles would include integrity, value, the quality of the product or service and the quality of the craftsmanship of that product or service. The key factor that underpins the whole business is the care and consideration of our team and working environment.

Within the business that you own, run or attend to, are those fundamental principles alive and activated or do you not feel the quality and integrity of the service?

Why work there?

What inspires you to work where you work and what needs to change?

Working to deliver a quality product or service is paramount when it comes to feeling great respect and pride in what you deliver.

The quality and value of what we produce and how we work is reflective in the way we feel about working.

If we love what we do and do what we love, then working is a joy.

If we are challenged by the quality and care behind the work we do, we can feel uninspired and this can lead to a lack of enjoyment at work. From this mental health issues are created. We can also bring mental health issues to work via our family, relationship, personal issues which leads to a lack of satisfaction in what we do and how we produce our products and services. There are so many factors to consider when it comes to having a healthy work environment.

Do you enjoy work and if not, have you spoken to someone about this?

Most organisations have an EAP program. This is an employee assistance program. This program is offered to you via the company that you work for. Speaking to a counsellor about the challenges you may have in regards to work or your life in general is a very supportive way to maintain a healthy mindset. Contact your HR department for more details.

If you are interested in offering a EAP program to your organisation please contact us at The Anna Centre.

Business as usual should be a joy. Working is something that we all bring to our communities. Always appreciate the work that you provide for us all. It is important and so are you.
